Geotechnical Investigation

Boreholes, in-situ testing, sampling and laboratory analysis for foundation and infrastructure decisions.

What this service does

Geotechnical investigation establishes the engineering properties of soil and rock through field exploration, in-situ testing, sampling and laboratory analysis.

Common applications

  • Boreholes and SPT
  • Soil sampling
  • Laboratory testing
  • Foundation investigation
  • Pavement and infrastructure support

Methodology

We start by reviewing drawings, target depth, planned intrusive works and access constraints. Field collection is then completed using a survey pattern appropriate to the site, with complementary locating methods used where they improve confidence. Findings are interpreted, positioned and issued in clear engineering deliverables.

Limitations and quality control

Scope and test schedules should follow the project designer’s requirements, applicable Saudi standards and the engineering decisions the investigation must support.

Typical deliverables

  • Marked-up plans and/or CAD drawings
  • Depth annotations where technically supportable
  • Survey coverage and methodology record
  • Engineering report with findings and limitations
  • GIS-compatible outputs when required
Service FAQ

Questions about Geotechnical Investigation

What is a borehole investigation used for?

Boreholes provide direct subsurface information through drilling, sampling and in-situ testing. They are used to establish soil and rock conditions for foundations, roads, utilities and other civil works.

What geophysical methods can complement GPR?

Depending on the target, seismic methods, electrical resistivity, electromagnetic locating and other geophysical techniques may complement GPR. Method selection should be based on the engineering question rather than using one instrument for every site.

Does a utility survey guarantee that nothing is buried?

No non-intrusive survey can guarantee detection of every buried object. Detection is affected by access, depth, target properties, interference and ground conditions. Reports should therefore state limitations and recommend verification where consequences are high.
